Halfpenny London wedding dresses are designed and handmade in England.

Halfpenny London was created by Kate Halfpenny in 2005. From its inception, Kate’s contemporary designs and unique approach to bridal wear made a noticeable impact within luxury bridal, appealing to fashion conscious, style savvy brides with a need to express their individuality while looking and feeling absolutely incredible on the most important day of their lives. Each gown is beautifully crafted in London, England by top seamstresses with the finest silks and laces sourced from Italy and France.

Halfpenny London is also committed to sustainability and leaving as little waste as possible. Each Halfpenny London wedding dress is made to order so there are no unsold inventory pieces to end up in the landfill when that dress or accessory is discontinued. They also always try to find the beauty in the tiniest pieces of fabric and repurpose the leftover scraps when cutting a wedding dress to maximize efficiency and minimize waste. For example, the silk organza flowers that cane be found on pieces like the Dandelion Veil or the ruffles on the Mayfair Skirt are made from the cut-off fabric that is too small to be used for another garment.

For samples that are well loved or not sold off-the-rack, Halfpenny London donates to Brides Do Good, a charity which gives a percentage of proceeds to support projects working to empower girls and end child marriage.

Kate Halfpenny

Growing up with a love of fashion and fabric, she graduated with a degree in Fashion Design. Her a portfolio showcased beautiful corsets and billowing ballgown skirts which would be the start of something incredible. Kate landed a coveted internship with the legendary Vivienne Westwood (yes, THE Vivienne Westwood that is responsible for Carrie Bradshaw's iconic Sex and the City wedding dress). With a growing reputation, Kate began designing bespoke gowns for celebrities and was commissioned to make a custom gown for Rihanna. The skirt of her gown made it into the official bridal collection and is appropriately called the Rihanna skirt (which can be found at our Columbus area bridal shop).

In addition to creating unique wedding gowns, Kate has a passion for interior furnishings with an eclectic property portfolio. Her signature style is obvious not only in her home, but also within the warm and welcoming walls of the Halfpenny London office and atelier.
